Hot Under the Collar - Air Conditioning Sales Plummet in 2008
Portable air conditioning sales, which represent 69 per cent of the air conditioning market in unit terms, fell by almost one third due to slow pre-summer sales. The state of the market has produced single sales and improved features from manufacturers.
MILTON KEYNES, UK, October 25, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Small domestic appliances sales felt a chill in the third quarter, especially in the air conditioning market, with French air conditioning falling in value by 34 per cent and down by 29 per cent in volume when compared with last year's figures. According to research data collected by GfK Retail and Technology, the market stood at 37 million Euros in August, despite favourable weather during the month, when sales grew nearly two thirds in unit terms.
But the increase in sales was short lived, as _a href="portable air conditioners"_ http://www.iceboys.co.uk/prod.html _/a_ - responsible for 69 per cent of the market in unit terms - are down by almost one third as a result of slow pre-summer sales. Between the months of April and May 2008, portable air conditioning sales represented just 19 per cent of the total for the same period the previous year.
In order to combat sloping sales figures, major brands are pursuing marketing campaigns and promotional ventures, with more and more single products emerging (85 per cent in 2008, versus 83 percent in 2007), which on average are less expensive.
Manufacturers are producing _a href="portable air conditioning"_ http://www.iceboys.co.uk/prod.html _/a_ with additional features to improve the quality of the air and protect those who suffer from asthma and hayfever, as well as keep out air borne viruses, dust, humidity and reduce stress levels in the office and home. Over three quarters of the apparuteses are equipped with a dehumidification function, and 54 per cent have the capacity to purify air.
